That rare exception is coming up soon, though, at the <strong>Hotel Gajoen Tokyo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Also known as Meguro Gajoen, the property bills itself as Japan\u2019s only<strong> \u201cmuseum hotel,\u201d<\/strong> on account of its roughly 2,500 paintings and other works of Japanese art. The hotel is most famous for its <strong>Hundred Steps Staircase<\/strong>, a preserved corridor with opulently appointed exhibition rooms off its sides.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-705371\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/06\/MG-2.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This summer they\u2019ll be serving as the venue for the <strong>Wano Akari x Hyakudan Kaidan: A Riot of Demons<\/strong> event. The most dynamic piece is an illuminated representation of an <strong>oni<\/strong> (demon) done in the style of the floats of <a href=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/2025\/04\/03\/how-to-do-an-overnight-bus-trip-to-hirosaki-from-tokyo-part-2%E3%80%90photos%E3%80%91\/\">the Nebuta Festival of Japan\u2019s northern Aomori Prefecture<\/a>, something that can rarely be seen in Tokyo. In fact, <strong>the Hotel Gajoen is displaying its Nebuta-style oni for the first time in six years<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-705372\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/06\/MG-3.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"640\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-705373\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/06\/MG-4.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"373\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The hotel is promising <strong>\u201ca gathering of hundreds of oni,\u201d from 38 different artists<\/strong>, in paintings, ceramic figures, and both traditional crafts and contemporary art forms. Not all of them will be quite so fearsome as the Nebuta oni, if this preview image is anything to go by.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-705374\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/06\/MG-5.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"640\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then there\u2019s the first part of the Wano Akari x Hyakudan Kaidan: A Riot of Demons exhibition name. \u201cWano Akari\u201d translates to \u201clight of Japan,\u201d and there will be immersive illuminated works of non-oni art to enjoy too.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-705375\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/06\/MG-6.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u25bc The event\u2019s preview video<\/p>\n\n<p>Tickets for the exhibition are priced at 1,400 yen (US$9.65) for adults and can be made online <a href=\"https:\/\/www.e-tix.jp\/100event\/en\/akari.html\">here<\/a>. However, if the Hundred Steps Staircase\u2019s architecture has you wanting to dress in a similarly traditional style, the Hotel Gajoen is also offering a new <strong>Yukata Plan<\/strong>, with prices starting at 18,000 yen that includes <strong>a yukata summer kimono fitting, lunch, afternoon tea, or dinner at the hotel, and a half-off discount on admission to the exhibition.
