This time around it\u2019s <strong>Sony<\/strong>, along with <strong>Gashapon<\/strong> capsule toy machine maker <strong>Bandai<\/strong>, who\u2019re delivering <strong>a tactile trip back to the days of early PlayStation generations with a line of miniature game case replicas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-710948\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/08\/mg-2.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"640\" \/><\/p>\n<p>These aren\u2019t just single-sided trinkets, either. Though not shown in these promotional images, the capsule toys\u2019 backside cases are also exacting recreations of the original packaging. <strong>Maybe the coolest part of all, though, is that you can actually open the cases and take out little replica disks<\/strong>, which are accurately colored black on their non-label sides for the PS1\u2019s CD-roms and silver for the PS2\u2019s DVD-roms. The insides of the PS2 cases even include the bracket where you could store a memory card.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-710958\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/08\/mg-21.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"420\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-710959\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/08\/mg-22.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"394\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A total of nine landmark PlayStation and PlayStation 2 titles compose the Game Package Mini Charm, with each featuring a chain strap so that you can attach them to a bag strap as an accessory or use them as keychains. Starting things off is <strong>Ape Escape<\/strong>, released in 1999 and the first PS1 game to require the then-new DualShock analog controller to play.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-710949\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/08\/mg-3.jpg?w=560\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"560\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Next we have <strong>Hot Shots Golf<\/strong>, also known in some markets as Everybody\u2019s Golf, a direct translation of its Japanese title Minna no Golf. Released in 1997, <em>Hot Shots Golf<\/em> was developed by Camelot Software Planning, who previously produced the <em>Shining in the Darkness<\/em> and <em>Shining Force<\/em> RPGs for Sega, and would eventually go on to handle the various <em>Mario<\/em> sports games for Nintendo.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-710950\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/08\/mg-4.jpg?w=560\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"560\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Doko Demo Issyo<\/strong>, actually pronounced <em>Doko Demo Issho<\/em> and meaning \u201cTogether Everywhere,\u201d was a Japan-exclusive 1999 release compatible with the PocketStation, a memory card with a small screen and controls that could be used to play minigames even when removed from the PlayStation. <strong>Toro<\/strong>, the cat-like virtual pet that the game features, became a sort of ambassador for the PlayStation brand as a whole, and even now occasionally serves in that capacity in Japan.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-710951\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/08\/mg-5.jpg?w=560\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"560\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And last, there\u2019s <strong>XI<\/strong>, another Japan-exclusive release from 1998, this one a dice-based action puzzle game that became a sleeper hit in Japan despite needing to put a pronunciation guide on its front cover.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-710952\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/08\/mg-6.jpg?w=560\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"560\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Moving on to the <strong>PlayStation2<\/strong>, when even Japan switched to the larger DVD cases for games, we\u2019ve got sequels <strong>Ape Escape 2<\/strong>, from 2002\u2026<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-710953\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/08\/mg-7.jpg?w=560\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"560\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u2026<strong>Hot Shots Golf 3<\/strong>, from 2001\u2026<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-710954\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/08\/mg-8.jpg?w=560\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"560\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u2026and <em>Doko Demo Issyo<\/em> follow-up <strong>Holiday with Toro<\/strong>, from 2001.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-710955\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/08\/mg-9.jpg?w=560\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"560\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Last, but most certainly not least, there\u2019s <strong>Ico<\/strong>, the 2001 directorial debut of Fumito Ueda and a masterful example of minimalist but emotionally impactful storytelling.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-710956\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/08\/mg-10.jpg?w=560\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"560\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Well, actually, <em>Ico<\/em> isn\u2019t the last game in the lineup, as there\u2019s also <strong>a ninth, \u201csecret\u201d capsule toy<\/strong>, though the preview image does at least give us the hint that it\u2019s a PS2 title.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-710957\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/08\/mg-11.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"394\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Game Package Mini Charms are priced at 300 yen (US$2) and are out in the capsule toy wilds of Japan right now.<\/p>\n<p><em>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/gashapon.jp\/products\/detail.php?jan_code=4582769847004000\">Gachapon<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.playstation.com\/ja-jp\/local\/official-products\/playstation-goods\/playstation-gamepackage-miniature-charm\/\">PlayStation<\/a> via <a href=\"https:\/\/otakuma.net\/archives\/2025082704.html\">Otakuma Keizai Shimbun<\/a> via <a href=\"https:\/\/news.livedoor.com\/article\/detail\/29450780\/\">Livedoor News<\/a><\/em><br \/>\n<em>Top image: Gashapon<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Insert images: PlayStation, Gashapon<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u25cf Want to hear about SoraNews24\u2019s latest articles as soon as they\u2019re published? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/RocketNews24En\">Follow us on Facebook<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RocketNews24En\">Twitter<\/a>!<\/em><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A micro-sized trip back to the glory days of the PS1 and 2.
