All-you-can-eat offers are just about always priced higher than a regular, single portion of the food in question would be, so you\u2019re going to have to eat a whole lot of it to get your money\u2019s worth, and even if you\u2019ve got the stomach capacity to do so, you might get tired of the taste of something if you\u2019re eating it nonstop for a a full 60 minutes, the length of a lot of all-you-can-eat promotions.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, while <a href=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/2025\/10\/23\/japans-new-restaurant-is-reeling-in-customers-with-its-all-you-can-eat-sashimi-experience\/\">unlimited sashimi<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/2025\/07\/24\/popular-osaka-all-you-can-eat-yakiniku-chain-yakiniku-rikimaru-opens-its-first-location-in-tokyo\/\">yakiniku<\/a> are undeniably tempting, you\u2019re going to already know you\u2019re a serious fan of them before taking the plunge on those all-you-can-eat deals. It turns out, though, that<strong> there\u2019s an all-you-can-eat event going on right now in Tokyo that\u2019s super friendly to absolute newbies and their wallets, and it\u2019s even in one of the most popular tourism neighborhoods in the city<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Based in Niigata Prefecture,<strong> Iwatsuka Seika<\/strong> is one of the most popular makers of <strong>senbei<\/strong>, Japanese rice crackers, producing dozens of different types of flavors. Variety may be the spice of life, but that much of it can overwhelming if you\u2019re a newcomer to the world of senbei, but Iwatsuka has opened a popup called<strong> Osenbei Taste Test Land<\/strong> inside the <strong>Shibuya<\/strong> branch of department store <strong>Parco<\/strong> in downtown Tokyo, the same building that houses the <a href=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/2019\/11\/22\/nintendo-tokyo-nintendos-first-ever-dedicated-shop-in-japan-opens-heres-the-awesome-merch\/\">Nintendo Tokyo specialty shop<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/2019\/11\/30\/life-size-mewtwo-graffiti-pikachu-welcome-us-to-the-newest-pokemon-center-megastore-in-shibuya\/\">Shibuya Pok\u00e9mon Center superstore<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At Osenbei Taste Test Land, you\u2019re given <strong>10 minutes to enjoy as much as you like of the 40 different types of senbei on offer<\/strong>, so getting bored with a single taste isn\u2019t something you\u2019ll need to worry about. What\u2019s more, it\u2019s <strong>completely free!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u25bc The sign for Osenbei Taste Test Land with its nonchalant mention of \u201cadmission free\u201d (\u5165\u5834\u7121\u6599)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-716666\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/11\/as-2.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"382\" \/><\/p>\n<p>All-you-can-eat sessions are held <strong>every 20 minutes between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.<\/strong> We showed up just a little early, which gave us time to look at the displays chronicling the history of Iwatsuka, which was founded in 1947, and some of the snack subsidiaries it\u2019s started since.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-716667\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/11\/as-3.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"654\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-716668\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/11\/as-4.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"633\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But we were here to eat, not to read, and our hearts raced and stomachs growled as we were ushered into the room where the senbei were waiting for us.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-716669\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/11\/as-5.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Participants are asked to take just one of each type at a time, then go back for seconds after they\u2019ve eaten it. Obviously, we wanted to try them all, so we sampled one of each kind first, using the suppled tongs to pick up the senbei that don\u2019t come individually wrapped..<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-716670\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/11\/as-6.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"691\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-716671\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/11\/as-7.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"626\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With 40 different types to try,<strong> doing a complete sweep took us about eight and a half minutes<\/strong>. The across-the-board-quality was excellent, and we still had some time left over for repeats of our favorites.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-716672\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/11\/as-8.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"589\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Though senbei are a one or two-bite-sized snack food, 10 minutes eating them is plenty of time to fill you up but not so much as to make you feel uncomfortably bloated. So while we weren\u2019t hungry after our all-you-can-eat session was done, we knew we\u2019d be craving senbei again soon.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-716673\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/11\/as-9.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"610\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, <strong>Osenbei Taste Test Land also sells the senbei that are part of its all-you-can-eat offer<\/strong>, and while there\u2019s no obligation to buy anything, we picked up three packs to take home: the outstanding shrimp-flavored <strong>Zuika<\/strong> (476 yen [US$3.15]), the excellent edamame-flavored <strong>The Hitotsumami<\/strong> (232 yen), and <strong>Zarameaji<\/strong>, crisp and spinkled with granulated sugar for a lightly sweet flavor that we\u2019re absolutely going to pair with a cup of nice green tea.<\/p>\n<p>\u25bc Left to right: Zarameaji, The Hitotsumami, and Zuika<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-716674\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/11\/as-10.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"481\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Osenbei Taste Test Land will be ending its run in Shibuya Parco\u2019s 8th-floor Hobo Michiyoubi event space soon, though.
