Taking it out of the packaging, it appeared to be about the same size as a steamed bun, and it even came with the same piece of thin glacine paper on the bottom.<\/p>\n<p>\u25bc A bagel masquerading as a steamed bun?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-727735\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/03\/7-Eleven-Japan-convenience-store-food-finds-steamed-cheese-bagel-Chinese-bun-Tokyo-news-3.jpeg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This was, though, a cheese bagel, and when we bit into it, we found it had an exquisite texture. It was much softer than any other bagel we\u2019ve ever tried, yet with a delicious chewiness that was delightfully fluffy and incredibly easy to eat.<\/p>\n<p>\u25bc According to the chain, these bagels are made with a special formulation of flour to achieve their unique elasticity.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-727739\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/03\/7-Eleven-Japan-convenience-store-food-finds-steamed-cheese-bagel-Chinese-bun-Tokyo-news-7.jpeg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Three types of cheese \u2013 gouda, cheddar, and parmesan \u2013 are used in this bagel, adding to its melty richness. While the taste is excellent, the highlight is, without a doubt, the texture, which will delight lovers of soft, moist breads\u2026and anger bagel purists.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-727736\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/03\/7-Eleven-Japan-convenience-store-food-finds-steamed-cheese-bagel-Chinese-bun-Tokyo-news-4.jpeg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you go into this treat expecting a bagel, you\u2019ll be taken aback by the soft texture. The mouthfeel is closer to that of a steamed Chinese bun, so it\u2019ll take your mind on a journey of discovery while taking your taste buds to new realms as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u25bc Interestingly, on the paper beneath the bagel you\u2019ll find the words \u201cShinjuku Nakamuraya\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-727737\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/03\/7-Eleven-Japan-convenience-store-food-finds-steamed-cheese-bagel-Chinese-bun-Tokyo-news-5.jpeg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As a steamed bun specialist who also created Japan\u2019s first cream bun, Shinjuku Nakamuraya now appears to be taking its expertise into the world of bagels.\u00a0 Personally, we loved the texture, and as long as you leave your bagel expectations at the door and view this as a steamed snack, we think you\u2019ll love it too.<\/p>\n<p>Priced at 180 yen (US$1.15) each, these steamed bagels went on sale at 7-Eleven on 17 February and will soon be rolled out nationwide.
