They\u2019ve got a whole bunch of sub-brands with different specialties, such as Ganko conveyor belt sushi or curry restaurants. Today, though, we\u2019re talking about<strong> Ganko\u2019s Oyashiki locations, which are restaurants converted from yashiki, or classical Japanese manor houses<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u25bc Photos of some of Ganko\u2019s Oyashiki restaurants<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-731343\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/04\/go-2.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"329\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Yashiki are architectural works of art, but preservation costs often make them too expensive for use as private residences anymore, and converting them to museums is also something that\u2019s not always economically viable for local communities. With its Oyashiki restaurants, Ganko wants to help these historical landmarks obtain long-term sustainability, and there\u2019s even an Oyashiki Ganko in <strong>Tokyo<\/strong>, in the <strong>Tachikawa<\/strong> district to the west of downtown.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tachikawa Station<\/strong> is the nearest railway stop to <strong>Oyashiki Ganko Tachikawa Saryo<\/strong>, to use the restaurant\u2019s full name. From the station, you can walk to the restaurant in about 15 minutes, or you can hop on a bus for a five-minute ride to Sakaecho Sanchome, the closest bus stop.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-731344\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/04\/go-3.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u25bc Right after getting off the bus, we spotted the sign for Ganko (\u304c\u3093\u3053)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-731345\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/04\/og-4.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When Ganko moves into a yashiki, they don\u2019t just preserve the building, they take care of the garden too, and we walked down an old-school stone path, past a bush of early-flowering azaleas, on our approach to what was once the Nakano estate, with its main building constructed in the early part of the Showa period (1926-1989).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-731346\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/04\/og-5.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u25bc The Nakano (\u4e2d\u91ce) family name plate is still posted by the entrance.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-731347\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/04\/og-6.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-731348\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/04\/og-7.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Because of its vintage, the house\u2019s interior has a mix of Japanese and Western aspects, but they\u2019re all elegantly retro,<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-731349\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/04\/og-8.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-731350\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/04\/og-9.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-731351\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/04\/og-10.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Given the very high-class ambiance, you might expect very high-priced food too. To be sure, Oyashiki Ganko isn\u2019t a place you\u2019d go to if stretching your food budget is you primary concern. However, <strong>you don\u2019t need an aristocracy-level income in order to dine here<\/strong>. Course meals range from about 4,000 to 10,000 yen per person, and this location even has a<strong> Japanese-style afternoon tea set for 3,630 yen<\/strong> (US$23), which is a pretty affordable luxury (though note that the restaurant charges a 10-percent service charge).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-731352\" being led into a beautiful dining room with wide views of the inner garden\u2026<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-731364\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>So what comes in Oyashiki Ganko\u2019s Japanese-style afternoon tea set?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-731355\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/04\/og-14.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As with many fancy restaurants in Japan, the exact items vary seasonly, but since we were there during cherry blossom sweets season, the dessert tier included<strong> sakura mochi<\/strong>, along with <strong>mitarashi dango<\/strong> (dumplings in a sweet sauce),<strong> sliced fruit, and a mini strawberry parfait<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-731356\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/04\/og-15.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" proteins, meanwhile, were on the lower plate, where we had <strong>wagyu roast beef, ball-shaped temari sushi, more sushi wrapped in a bamboo leaf, and soy milk gelatin with cherry blossoms<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-731357\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u2026<strong>a seasonal sakura cake<\/strong>\u2026<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-731362\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/04\/og-21.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u2026and a bowl of <strong>yuba<\/strong> (tofu skin) with ankake sauce.<\/p>\n<p>\u25bc The yuba bowl was the designated main dish of our Japanese-style afternoon tea set, but Ganko also has sets with extra sushi hamburger steak instead.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-731363\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/04\/og-22.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Everything tasted wonderful, and the set also gives you your choice of two types of beverages from a total of six options: <strong>Kyoto-grown black tea, yuzu tea, freshly brewed coffee, and orange, mango, and white peach juice<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-731365\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/04\/og-24.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-731366\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/04\/og-25.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We can\u2019t stress enough, though, how much Oyashiki Ganko is a treat for the eyes as well as the taste buds. <strong>The ceramics, paintings, and latticework combine to give the place the feeling of an art museum that just so happens to serve delicious food, and the building is so photogenic that it\u2019s practically impossible to take a bad picture<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The location of this Oyashiki Ganko makes it an easy option for Tokyoites wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city center for an afternoon, and it\u2019s also easy to slot into the rest of your Tokyo sightseeing itinerary if traveling in the capital.
