The monumental work, which just went on view at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfmoma.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SFMOMA<\/a>, marks the largest piece the artist has created to date.<\/p>\n<p>As sun streams through the museum\u2019s large windows and mixes with the light of the gallery, the feel of the installation changes throughout the day. Hashimoto conceives of the experience as a conduit to wonder for visitors of all ages, focusing on formal compositional elements like contrast, hue, and repetition to evoke the joy of the present. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"1094\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thisiscolossal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/hashimoto-3.jpg\" alt=\"an installation by Jacob Hashimoto in a gallery space of hundreds of colorful, patterned, tiny, kite-like discs and shapes suspended from the ceiling\" class=\"wp-image-477405\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe gravity of <em>Giant Arc<\/em> is its universality,\u201d Hashimoto says in a statement. \u201cThis essential nature allows people to find what they might need in the work\u2014mysteries if people want them, stories if people desire them, narratives to spin and twist, experimental maps and aerial geographies to explore.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Giant Arc <\/em>will be on view through mid-2028 in the museum\u2019s ground floor gallery.
