It\u2019s not just the treats that have attracted fans, though, as the company is known for its playful side, releasing out-there flavours like <a href=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/2019\/09\/28\/garigari-kun-releases-new-tamagoyaki-japanese-egg-omelette-flavoured-popsicle\/\">Japanese rolled omelette<\/a> and setting up <a href=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/2024\/07\/29\/free-ice-popsicle-factory-tour-in-japan-comes-with-all-you-can-eat-garigari-kun\/\">a Gari Gari-kun shrine for visitors at its factory<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>All in all, <strong>you could describe Akagi Nyugyo as a pretty ballin\u2019 company<\/strong>, but even we\u2019re not sure if it knew what it was doing when it came up with the idea to release a new ice cream called\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u25bc \u2026 <strong>Ballin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-744161\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/09\/Ballin-ice-cream-japan-convenience-store-sweets-must-buy-food-social-media-instagram-pun-Akagi-Nyugyo-shop-yogurt-bowl-chocolate-news-.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"238\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is the type of ice cream that\u2019ll stop a foreign visitor to Japan in their tracks, as the word \u201c<strong>ballin<\/strong>\u2019\u201d is slang for someone living a flashy lifestyle or something that\u2019s a blatant symbol of wealth.<\/p>\n<p>Akagi Nyugyo, however, seems to be unaware of the fact that their new ice cream is ballin\u2019, instead saying the name is a play on the words \u201c<strong>ball<\/strong>\u201d, \u201c<strong>in<\/strong>\u201d, and \u201c<strong>borin<\/strong>\u201d (from \u201cbori-bori\u201d, the Japanese onomatopoeia for the sound of eating something crunchy).<\/p>\n<p>\u25bc The play on words is alluded to on the package: \u201c\u2018\u307c\u308a\u3093\u2019\u3068\u98df\u611f\u306e\u30dc\u30fc\u30eb\u304cIN\u201d (\u201c\u2018Borin\u2019-textured balls are IN\u201d)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-744161\" src=\"https:\/\/soranews24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/09\/Ballin-ice-cream-japan-convenience-store-sweets-must-buy-food-social-media-instagram-pun-Akagi-Nyugyo-shop-yogurt-bowl-chocolate-news-.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"238\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Adding another layer of wordplay to the product is<strong> the ice cream\u2019s yoghurt flavour<\/strong>, which is said to be inspired by \u201c<strong>yoghurt bowls<\/strong>\u201d.
